containing my excitment....

Look what I have. It sits on my desk. I look at it every day. I'm an Ani virgin and I am so excited to see her live. I'm trying to play it cool and be like "oh yeah, I have tickets for the concert in Iowa City" like it's no big deal. But inside it's more like "I'M GOING TO SEE ANI!!!!! FINALLY!!!! I CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT!!!!" So for now I'll hold it all in, for now....

modern convenience

Oh the wonders of modern convenience! How is it I made it more than three years with out a dishwasher? Isn't it just lovely? All shinny and black. Smooth across the top. Whisper quiet operation. My dishes come out cleaner than they've ever been. I think I'm in love... LOL!!! It's not completely done yet, it still needs to be trimmed out but the wood is there just waiting to be cut and stained, and at my house that is about as close to "done" as you can get!

The kids have been enjoying their school days, although they were out early again today due to the heat. Certainly it has to cool down eventually (it will cool down right before it snows. summer to winter!) We are doing lots of homework this year. I'm proud of them, they are getting it all done before dinner each night. We have school pictures already tomorrow (I'm envisioning pictures of sweaty little kids with heat flushed cheeks!). We signed Dan up for flag football today, it starts in September. He's excited about it, as am I. I was so looking forward to things settling down once school started, What was I thinking???!!!

back to school!!!

Finally!!! They are back to school. We took our customary pictures by the rock in our front yard. I had trouble getting Waverly to smile, she's a lot like her mommy, it's hard to be happy when you are nervous. For Dan it was old hat. It was all I could do to get him to slow down once we got to school. They ended up getting out at 12:50pm the first day because it was so hot & muggy, but they had a great day none the less. It cooled down a little today and they made it through their first full day!

When do you suppose he'll catch up? or she'll slow down?

one page...

One page. That's it. That's all I managed to get done this weekend. I had such high hopes of getting more done but alas, this is it. I'm happy with it, I did the journaling in my own hand writing (I'm trying to do that more) across the top and bottom.
I did get out to take some pictures of my roses. You know we didn't prune them or cover them like we were supposed to last fall. We were lazy and just left them, but they have re emerged, pretty as ever.

Iowa State Fair

I've lived in Iowa for 34 years (oh my gosh 34 years is a long time but that's a whole 'nother post) and I have never been to the Iowa State Fair, until last night! We cut out of work early and enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the fabulous Hu-Hot then we headed to Des Moines. We walked thru a couple of the building, got to see the award wining fruits & vegetables. I got to see the butter cow (I have no opinion on this, it's some body's form of art, who am I to criticize) and the huge sandcastle. We also got to see the photography exhibit, there were some amazing photos. I didn't realize they judged on photography, I'm marking this on my calendar for next year, just in case I shoot anything worth while between now and then, lol!
About 7:45pm after much "milling" around we headed to the grand stand for the concert. Tree63 opened, they are from South Africa and were great! I honestly had not heard them before but have since downloaded some of their stuff. Casting Crowns was incredible! The music was great, as is their message. Thank you to my friends for taking me a long, I had a wonderful time!!

balls & wieners!

Oh my gosh, funny funny funny!!!!! I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry was a great flick!! I giggled and giggled. I'm still giggling today when i think of "balls & wieners". Aside from the funny, it was a great story about two friends who would do anything for each other. And who doesn't love Kevin James? really!
In the past couple weeks I've also seen Knocked Up which was also very funny and had a great cast too. I'll be looking forward to Superbad when that comes around this way.
And finally the ever popular Die Hard or Live Free. When you've invested time in the first three Die Hard movies you can't just skip out on the latest one. I enjoyed this movie very much, and with a pg-13 rating we were able to take the kids along. I had forgotten how funny Bruce is and he did not let us down.

the sign of a good day!

When my craft room floor looks this messy you know it's been a good day! Denise, Raji, Jodi (& Claire) came over this morning for a day of scrapbooking. Why is it I didn't pick up my camera until after we were done and most had gone home? Typical. We got started around 9:30am and took a break around noon to walk downtown for lunch. We had a fabulous time. Denise got the most pages done, I think she ended up with 6 or 8!! Raji got a few done, I got none done, but I helped Jodi do her three. The one with the circles is going to be framed and given to her brother as a birthday gift. It turned out so nicely, I may have to do that with pictures of my kids!

I'm a music obsessor, always have been. I will stumble across a song I love, search it out, download it and listen and listen and listen. I will put it on my ipod and put it on repeat, just that one song! I tend to find my "favorite" songs in unique ways.

I was loitering at b&n with my kids one saturday afternoon and I could just faintly here the song they were playing through the store speakers, but I instantly fell in love with it: Amos Lee "Love in the Lies".

Towards the end of the movie "Man on Fire", with Denzel Washington, they play the most beautiful song. Three years of high school Spanish allowed me to partially understand the lyrics and I fell in love with it: Carlos Varela "Una Palabra". Waverly doesn't understand a word of it, but she can sing it (because she's heard it a gazillion times!)

That crazy JCPenney's commercial awhile back. I had heard it a million times, but I had never really looked up to see even what was being advertised. That's how I came across (A website of other crazy music obessors like me!!): Forever Thursday "How can it be"

One of my favorite show on a&e Intervention has the best theme song. I watch almost two seasons of it before I finally went looking for it: The Davenports "Five Steps".

So that is just a small sampling of my recent finds. Now today my friend Heidi gives me the website of a friend of hers who is a local photographer so I went to check out her photos and in her Wedding section this song starts to play. Now I know it's not a new song, but it's new to me!!! And I love it!! Michale Buble "Everything"

You're a falling star, you're the get away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.

And you play it coy, but it's kinda cute.
Ah, when you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend, that you don't know it's true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.

And I can't believe, uh that I'm your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we'll see it through,
And you know that's what our love can do.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
You're every song, and I sing along.
'Cause you're my everything.
Yeah, yeah

Back in July I had the opportunity to take some baby pictures. It was a fun day and a great learning experience for me! I hope i get the chance to shoot these little guys again.

a little something..

i've been trying to scrapbook now for a few days, with no results... today i actually got a couple pages done. nothing outstanding, but it's a start. the paw print paper is Karen Foster Design, i cut the letters with my cricut (base camp) and inked them up with the SU! canvas stamp. i cut the arrow free hand and used a su! wheel to add some texture. i didn't put any journaling on this page, i probably should. i may add it later... i remember looking and looking for kate. i had finally given up and sat down to scrapbook and there she was hiding behind my paper drawers!

i used all Basic Grey papers from the Gypsy line for the "smile" page. the word was cut with my cricut (mini mon) and i threw on my favorite green rick rac. i've picked up a couple spools of it because i find myself using it on a lot of different projects. it's kind of shinny and just the nicest shade of green. again no journaling here, yet. i guess i just wasn't in the mood for journaling today. :-)

The kids are still talking about the IMAX movie we saw last weekend at the Omaha Zoo. They had never been to an IMAX theater before so i don't think they realize how big it really was until they were sitting there in front of it. We saw Deep Sea 3D. Now this was not your typical chintzy paper glasses with one blue and one red lens. This was an honest to goodness 3D film and it was one of the coolest things we have ever seen. As the film took us though a field of jellyfish i could see Dan reach out, as if he could grab one from right in front of his face. We were very glad that we took the time to see it while we were there that day.

a late night.....

poor dan was having terrible stomach cramps from about 8:30pm on last night. I think he slept for about an hour & then was up the rest of the night with the pain. we finally ended up at the Covenant ER about 2:30 this morning. that's one of he hardest decisions i think. do you take them into the ER or do you wait it out? I hate to be the over cautious mother who's running their kid in there for the least little thing, but then you don't want to let it go, never knowing exactly what's wrong. We left two hours later: they took some x-rays, confirmed that he is full of shit (which is not news to anyone who knows dan! lol), gave him some medicine to drink to help him go and sent us on our way. so now we wait, to see how it all "comes out"...
