I see London, I see France, I see Rachael's...

This is how my day began. I wore my favorite jeans, granted I knew they had a little tiny wear hole by the back pocket, little tiny I tell you! Anyway about 9am I'm standing at Toni's desk (I love using her new alias!!) talking about something, work related I'm certain and as I turn to walk away, she's like "oh no". Low and behold my tiny little hole had grown into this gapping slit in the rear of my jeans. So at 9:05 am I'm taking my "lunch" and making a mad dash to target. Thankfully I was able to find a new pair of jeans, not exactly the right size but I'll try to shrink them up a little in the wash and they'll be fine. Hell as long as they covered my ass I was happy!
So back to work I go. The rest of the day was rather uneventful. It started to snow (again) mid afternoon. I was not leaving early. No matter what mother nature dumped on us. So at 4pm I leave the building. My car really only has snow built up on the driver side, I warm it up and start looking for my scraper. You know my nice winter ice scraper that should be in my car from October until April. Gone. It's gone. I go so far as to get out and look in the trunk. No scraper. So I wait for my wipers and the heater to clear the crusty windows.
I get on highway 20 and it isn't terrible, it's slick but I was able to go 50mph. I have to run to UPS in Cedar Falls so I'm detouring a little this afternoon but what I had to pick up was worth the trip. I finally get on my way home down Hudson road. It's terrible, we're going 30mph, then 20mph, then 10 mph. Some moron is literally going 10 mph and we are all having to take turns passing him. I finally get through Hudson onto highway 63. Ok now is really bad. The road is mostly covered and slippery but we maintain about 35-40mph. Visibility is bad but I'm trudging along. I get to highway 175, the last 7 miles of my trip. This is insane. Granted I've only been commuting for 4 years but this is the worst winter driving I've ever experience. The drifts along the road that are at least two feet taller than my car are blowing snow down on to the road and onto my windshield. This road hasn't seen a plow in a while (not that it would have matter). The drifts, which cover 75% of this road, are so deep that it's bumping up against the bottom of my car. You can't see because everything is white. I look like an idiot because I keep blinking and opening my eyes really widely thinking that will help, duh! I'm going 25mph. I'm afraid to slow down any more because the snow on the road is so deep I'm afraid I'll get stuck. I try staying more towards the center when there is no oncoming traffic but even that doesn't help. By the time I get to town, of course it clears up a little and I start to relax. Then I see the truck ahead of me swerve sharply and I remember that I have to maneuver through the "pot hole obstacle course". Anyone from out of town would probably think we were all drinking the way you have to swerve around the gargantuan pot holes. Finally I get to mom's. I want to jump out of my car and high five someone. I just made it through an incredible driving experience. I want a t-shirt that says "I survived the Feb 2008 commute!".
Thankfully violin lessons were canceled so we didn't have to feel guilty about not going back to Cedar Falls. However that also forced us to cancel our Hu Hott dinner with Tami (which I am very sad about). So here the three of us sit. We've been coloring and playing on line. Tom called, sounds like he is having a lovely time. He said something about it being 80 degrees in Phoenix today... that's all I have to say about that. I'm being called to the stage now, it's guitar hero time baby!!! I've got to rock n' roll!

One more shot before I leave you... my little greasy Dan, I can't wait until he wants to shower!!!

saturday saturday saturday

What an absolutely lovely evening we had in Dubuque. Thanks to Susan I got hooked early on these great Guava Martini's at Holihan's.

Pete also met us for a drink before the party got started.

Tom was recognized for having 15 years of service with the company. Here's to 15 more!!!
I figured it was only fair to throw this picture of Holly & I in. Even blurry you can tell my mouth was open, good grief! Almost looks like we were doing a conga line except that our hands are full!!

This is one talented lady!

We had a lot of fun and a lot to drink. But you know you're getting old when 11 o'clock rolls around and we are all heading back to the rooms.

Tom was also given a trip in recognition of outstanding sales growth. So we are going to PANAMA in October!!! We are both so very excited!! We'll be staying at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.

NO MORE SNOW DAYS! NO MORE SNOW DAYS!

I want to go back to work. There is a reason I am not a stay at home mom. My kids are good & they are funny. BUT THEY ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Daniel calls me "woman" or "digitydog" one more time I'm going to snap!
If I have to put chains on my Impala tires, I'm going to work tomorrow. If I have to bribe snow plow drivers to let me hitch a ride, I'm going to work tomorrow. If I have to brave the ice and go in the ditch tomorrow... well at least I will be stuck in my nice quiet car, LOL!!! We did have a few hours of productivity today. We straighted up the basement and got the Holiday stuff stored away appropriately (away from the potential water I'm afraid we are going to see during the "melt"). And we started cleaning out the room that Tom is going to be dry walling in the very near future (yeah!!!)

In an attempt to jump start my scrapbooking again I participated in a Scrapbook Sketch challenge on Splitcoast. This is the result. I'm happy with it, plus I got to use the Basic Grey papers I've had for a while. I am going to add a little pull out journaling block behind the far left picture....

Now sadly, I need to go find something for dinner. I was supposed to be going to Hu Hot with Toni, um I mean Tami & Jodi tonight so nothing I can make here will measure up to what should have been..... next week maybe!

Snow Day (again)

Here are the Jan & Feb pages of my slice of life album (9x9). Every 3rd of the month I'll take a picture of what we are doing (or not doing as the case may be) and I'll scrapbook it. I plan to keep the layouts similar which eliminates some of the stress for me. It will be fun to look back at the end of the year. I recently read about a 52 week challenge, if I can do this for 2008 maybe I'll do the weekly thing next year. I'm honestly not sure I am interesting enough to do it weekly, but maybe, lol!!! I'm anxious to see Natalie & Heidi's pages, they are also doing the slice of life albums.....

The birthday card was inspired by the weekly splitcoaststampers challenge. I picked bright colors contrary to this otherwise snowy & blowy day and of course had to add some glitter.
I am trying to use up some of my scraps as my scrap drawers are overflowing, this is what I came up with.

I made this great coaster calendar last month & am just now getting around to taking a picture of it. Thanks to Michele for selling me the coasters. This was also the project that required me to purchase the crop-a-dile (which i love)!

And another thing....

I had a lovely visit with my friend Joan this afternoon. I was able to help her get her camera out of the box and hopefully the battery is charging as we speak!

I also gave her the blogspot basics lesson to get her up & running (and I see she has her first post out there already!). You'll want to visit her blog often. She is such a dear friend to me and one of the most creative people I know. I'm anxious to see how she utilizes this new form of communication.

Technologically Greedy

First I must share a couple pictures from today....

I went to Heidi's this morning to assist her in getting her blog up and running and of course I had my camera with me! J is a ham, such a happy little boy. C was busy playing and did a great job of keeping his head down and his back to me, lol! Although he did look my way once. I kindly asked if I could come back and take pictures again some time and he did agree, so I must not have been all bad, lol!! I ran through the blogspot basics with Heidi & Natalie. I have a link to Natalie's blog already on the side, but I'm still waiting to get the address to Heidi's. When I left I think I heard her say she was going to get something posted tonight yet, so I wait.

I was talking with a friend this week, to protect her identity we'll call her Toni P. She was struggling with her new cell phone. She was having trouble getting it to recognize the memory card she had installed so that she could add music to it and use it like a MP3 player. She also wanted to be able to add pictures from her pc. She was frustrated when her text messages were coming through without the correct photo/name assignments, rather they just had some random number assigned to them. No wait that's not quite right, it was the senders phone number that was showing, which was totally useless in identifying the sender of the text because of course none of us memorize phone numbers any more. Poor media com got to hear her serenade her dog, whom we'll call Lucky, because she hadn't actually hung up the phone due to "slider confusion". I believe the last time we talked she was going to march over to our local cellular whore and demand a new phone that could handle all of her needs (and while there she hopefully would not have to deal with the associate that got into the fight with the cougar, i digress...). I told her I thought she was technologically greedy. Expecting this innocent little phone to perform all of these function! But people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. I too expect a lot from my electronic gadgets. Are we expecting too much? How much more can a phone do? Do you remember your first cell phone? Mine was huge, it weighed like 5 lbs and you really couldn't even afford to use it. All it did was send and received analog phone calls, and not very well I must add!
I do hope Toni's phone issue gets resolved and I have faith that it will. It will be interesting to see where we go from here. What more will they pack into those tiny phones.

Valentines

Waverly and I made little tags with the Cricut for the Valentines lotions that we gave to their teachers. They had a good day, both came home with a lot of candy (oh joy). Oh and it's snowing again, isn't that great.

John Deere Green

These are actually not pictures of M & A. These are product pictures! Denise's aunt painted these two tubs, aren't they lovely!

Those two little boys are so fun! Dan gets such a kick out of them, he just loves to play. They loved me too (well while I was holding the snacks anyway!). It's great to see how they are growing and developing their own unique personalities. I can't wait until spring when we can get outside and realy run around with them (I'm envisioning me with my camera chasing them around the yard!)

twinkel twinkel

He is sure enjoying himself. This is after only two lessons. I'm really getting my money's worth!! Be watching for wav's video in the near future!

February 6, 2008

How is it possible that 10 years (almost to the minute right now) have gone by? 10 years ago, this instance, he was taking his first breath, labored though it was. 10 years ago my heart was breaking as they rushed him off to the NICU without so much as letting me hold him. 10 years ago seems like just yesterday. 10 years ago seems like a lifetime. For 10 years I've been thankful that he is the healthy, funny, smart, crazy kid that he is. And I'll be thankful for 100 more. What a blessing that the snow fell and the winds blew and the we've be forced to spend his birthday together! Now i need to get in the kitchen and get his cake made! Happy Birthday Shorty!!

breast friends!

Isn't this the cutest card?! I got the template from splitcoast. I actually made two cards, the other one just had the bottoms and on the inside I wrote "i'll always be behind you".

Dan was getting a kick out of them and suggested for this one I write on the inside "i'll always be your breast friend". For real? He's 10 (well tomorrow he'll be 10). Was Dane Cook this funny at 10?

The stamps are from My Favorite Things and I colored them with my Copic markers. I'm slowly learning how to use them, I could use more practice that's for sure. The middle layers is embossed with my wizard using cuttlebug embossing folders. You can't really see it but the party hats on the dogs are colored with stickels, you know i have to have some glitter!

Yes we can.

We're an American Band....

remember that song? Well we're not quite a band, yet, lol! I am so proud of my kids this week. They both started music lessons this week. Wav is taking piano here in town and Dan is taking violin in Cedar Falls. They were both very excited and very enthusiastic. They've been practicing too. Of course i have great aspirations for both of them, we'll see how things progress!

I frequently feel like i'm watching myself at age 7 when i look at wav, (except she has much better control of her hair than i did at that age!)
