Holiday Road

Every time I look at our new (and by new I mean new to us) I hear the song from Vacation, Holiday Road! We love it! It is a 1978 Steury Pop Up. It is in such great condition, especially for being 30 years old. Tom was thrilled when he plugged it in and the inside lights worked!
We got it all cleaned up and ready to go this past weekend. We will be camping Labor Day weekend with the Niedert's at Prairie Bridges. I feel ridiculously excited! It's going to be great to be able to pack the camper & not have our trunk bulging and to be up off the ground & dry. I think the stripes give it such character! Now we just need to find an awning! (thanks to my folks!!! Christmas came early this year!!!)

Oh and the kids have gotten a great start to school year, stay tuned, I'll get first day pictures up here very soon!

Rockin' two bowls

You never know where great advice is going to come from. Last night we were given the keys to life by a couple very tall, very hungry, very drunk young men while waiting on line at hu hot. He said "Dude two things in life you have to do. You have to rock 1080 HD TV and rock two bowls at hu hot" and then he walked away with his heaping plate of fabulous Hu Hot food.

We had a lovely Saturday evening! Tom & I went over to play with M&A about 4:30pm. How is it those boys get cuter each time I see them! They are so happy and giggly, we had a great time playing (oh and they actually pay attention to me when I don't take my kids with me!). Then the four if us headed out to met Tami and Raji & Ado at Hu Hot. Jason has been patiently waiting to eat at Hu Hot and I'm pleased to say he was not disappointed! Since it was his first time I don't believe he was brave enough to rock two bowls, but maybe next time!

By the time we left my checks hurt from laughing so much! What a great bunch of friends we have!!

did i mention Jason is my #1 blog fan!!!

only trees

It's been a long day.
It's been a long year.
It's a long windy road there's a lot of dead deer.
And you know she cries and cries with every one she sees.
There use to be no roads here she says only trees.

First anual Robinett friends & family campout

What a fun weekend we had! We left for Maquoketa Caves State Park Friday. What a beautiful park, nothing like what we have around here. You really felt like you were back in the woods. Amazingly the bugs were a non issue and the temperature was great.

During the overnight Friday it rained. We had failed to put our chairs away so those were wet. Tom & Tami ran into town to grab some dry chairs and a few more towels while the kids and I lazed around in the tent.

Here you can see "Bare Grills" making us breakfast on Saturday morning. Our new little camp stove worked wonderfully, we never went hungry that's for sure.

Saturday afternoon we headed down to explore the caves. My kids were so prepared, with all their gear hanging around their necks! It was a beautiful day, the sky was blue and the sun was shining. The kids loved hiking through the caves. It was fun though slightly treacherous as some of the paths were still wet from the rain early that morning.

We got back to our camp site and were just sitting around relaxing when we started to hear thunder. At first I was certain it was just an airplane over head, but we kept hearing it. We weren't about to get wet again so we started putting away the food and folding up our chairs. As the rain started we all settled into the tent to wait it out. It rained. and rained. and rained. Torrential rain. We were on the down side of the hill so we ended up with puddles all around our tents. The floor of our tent was like a water bed there was so much water underneath.

Once the rain ended we were back at it. Bare Grills gathered some fire wood and got our fire going and we enjoyed bacon cheese burgers for dinner. That evening we sat around the fire and told the kids scary stories before heading off to bed.

I was dirtier than I have ever been but I'm told that's what it's all about, letting go. Sarah was extremely well behaved. The kids, though excitable did well and really enjoyed themselves. Lots of relaxing, lots of laughs & a lot of great memories.

Can't wait to do it again (but next year we'll have a pop up!)

a little piece of heaven

This was delivered to my door, still warm, picked from the stalk only moments earlier. It was practically silent at our dinner table tonight as we enjoyed this little grundy county treasure.

Forced to scrapbook

Denise came over this afternoon in an attempt to jump start my creativity. I've not scrapbooked in weeks, maybe months. I've had no desire or motivation. I go into my room but mostly to hid, maybe to watch a little tv. So she thought if she were working on something maybe I would too.

Well for the first 30 minutes or so I cleaned and re arranged. And she would say, you aren't getting anything done.... Finally I sat down to do July's slice of life page (8x8) which was easy since I'd been out that night for B's birthday.

Then I ran into this great picture I had taken of Dan which had a funny story to go along with it (8.5x11).

After Denise left I did one more quick page for Waverly (8.5x11). I'm really enjoying these new papers I picked up at Target. That's the great thing about scrapbooking, you can continue to buy product, it doesn't expire or spoil and is always ready for you when you back in the mood!

August Morning....

I couldn't sleep this morning. Isn't that just the way it is. The one, and only, day in weeks that I could sleep until noon if I wanted to and there I lay at 5 am wide awake. Nothing like getting a jump on your day!

Looking back I realized I missed my One Year Blogger Anniversary on July 29th. Congratulations to me! Sure doesn't seem like I've been doing this a year, but as I get older the weeks and months seem to fly by. Thanks for sharing in my thoughts and ideas. Thanks for sharing a laugh or two with me. Thanks for the encouraging emails and the hate emails (not everyone can love it, lol!). Sort of my own secret public journal (though not near as funny as Mike Birbiglia!). Anyway thanks for reading!
